These paintings are based on my detailed observations of the moon seen at unanticipated times in my life. Oftentimes I am walking or driving when I notice a compelling night sky and must pull over to find a scrap of paper on which to sketch. Working from these notes, I complete the moon painting in my studio. The dates and times of this note-taking are random, echoing how we notice the moon by chance at unexpected times in our lives.
